What I do

Adaptive Music Systems

I build complex and dynamic music systems using a variety of tools and techniques in FMOD and Unity. These systems are designed to adapt fluidly to different gameplay contexts through carefully crafted transitions and layered compositions.

Sound Design & Foley

I create custom sound effects using a mix of synthesis, sampling, and recorded audio. My work includes everything from ambient environments to character and UI sounds, tailored to each project’s style.

Scores for Film & Animation

I compose original scores and design sound for film, animation, and trailers. My focus is on enhancing emotion, rhythm, and atmosphere through tight audio-visual synchronization. I also re-score existing scenes to explore alternate creative directions and showcase my versatility.

About Me

I’m Mateo M. Duque — a London-based sound designer and composer with a passion for creating immersive audio experiences for games, film, and animation.

My work blends emotional storytelling, dynamic music systems, and detailed sound design, using tools like FMOD, Unity, and Ableton. Whether I’m building adaptive music or sculpting atmospheres, I focus on crafting sound that pulls players and viewers deeper into the world.

InnerSpace Sci-Fi Action Game

Original Sound Design & Adaptive Music System

Composed and implemented 8 adaptive music loops and over 300 custom sound effects using FMOD and Unity.

Music was structured to reflect the progression through different areas of the game world, with seamless transitions and layered arrangements built using multi-instruments, logic tracks, and parameter automation.

Sound effects included UI, environmental, and character audio, all tailored to match the visual design and gameplay tone.

Exploration Open World Game

Adaptive Audio Implementation

I designed a complete audio experience for this exploration demo, including over 100 custom sound effects and multiple adaptive music loops. Each loop was tailored to different gameplay states, such as exploration, combat, and boss encounters. I also implemented immersive ambiences and spatial audio to bring the environments to life using FMOD and Unity.

Little Nightmares II - Trailer

Original Re-Score & Sound Redesign

I re-scored this trailer with a new original composition and completely redesigned the sound. The goal was to heighten emotional tension, emphasize rhythm, and create a darker, more cinematic atmosphere. Every footstep, transition, and crescendo was rebuilt to match the visuals and narrative tone.

White Shadows – Gameplay Redesign

Original Sound Redesign

I reimagined a gameplay sequence from White Shadows with original sound design. All in-game audio was replaced, including ambiences, environmental effects, UI sounds, and movement-based foley. All these was created to enhance atmosphere and tension, carefully synced to narrative pacing and visual cues.

Original Score Composition

I re-scored this trailer with an original composition to create a more emotionally driven and cinematic interpretation. The new music was carefully timed to enhance the pacing, emotional shifts, and visual drama of the trailer, using traditional instruments and orchestral textures to reflect the tone of the world.

Behind You – Short Horror Film

Original Score Composition

Composed the original score for Behind You, a psychological horror short. Focused on building tension, emotional subtext, and eerie atmosphere using a hybrid of organic and synthetic elements. Worked closely with the director to ensure the music enhanced the film’s psychological impact without overpowering the visuals.
